Bring on the “Hair Love”

My local librarian delivered a well read Black girl book list for girls and teen this summer.

I’m a STAN of Vashti Harrison work and was ecstatic to learn she was illustrating a new book “Hair Love” by author Matthew A. Cherry. When the book dropped at the beginning of June, I knew The Beauty of S.T.E.M. summer content theme will be hair. The Internet and my local librarian (which equals the universe) were making all connecting for me.

The Internet

First, I stumbled upon this video interview with the author and illustrator of “Hair Love.” Then Qai Qai tweet about the book and author Matthew Cherry retweeted with a comment. And finally, while co-facilitating a #CsforInclusion Twitter chat, I was asked about Binary Basics with Braids and Beads.

The Librarian

I stopped by my local library to ask the Children’s & Teen’s librarian for a recommendation and she delivered, see images below. While searching for the recommended books on Amazon, I stumbled “I Love My Hair: A Coloring Book of Braids, Coils, and Doodle Dos” by author Andrea Pippins.
